MAY 3, 2013  (last of the season!) Friday Night Old Mazatlan Art Walk:   24 different artists and galleries open up their doors and homes to the public for a 4 hour window on the first Friday of Every month (till May 3).  There are maps available around town and especially at the Mariana Beach Apartments and Hotel.  (Yes, I know…it is shameless to make a plug on your own blog.)  The streets of Centro  Historico are a pleasure to stroll around in  as you take in the art walk.  We usually try to plan to see 7 or 8 different places on a Friday, so it takes us most of the season to hit all the artists at least once.  And we usually make an evening of it as there are lots of little cafes and eateries to grab a light refreshment or dinner along the way. 4pm – 8pm (for map click here: http://www.artwalkmazatlan.com/map.htm)

JULY 2013  SUMMER STREET FESTIVAL is organized by the ex-pat community of Mazatlan and is held in the Historic Centre. Music, exhibitions, face painting, best “cerveza” costume competition, masseurs, dance show and soooo much more. Not to be missed if you´re here during the summer!

NOVEMBER 1 & 2, 2013 Friday and Saturday  DAY OF THE DEAD This is one of the best Mexican Holidays there is!  There´s a big parade that starts and ends in Plaza Machado (Old Mazatlan).  And by parade, I mean that everyone is invited to attend.  It is full of people like you and I.  They have carts pulled by donkeys, handing out free beer, musicians playing along the way, fire throwers and lots of people dressed up in costumes to celebrate this wonderful event.  It is truly dancing in the streets.  On the second, all the families go to the cemeteries to pull weeds, tend graves and celebrate with food with their families…living and dead.  It is a beautiful celebration of life and death.
